Woven Vessel Series
Looms and blooms…what could be more beautiful.
In a time where I find myself equally drawn to the softness of textile works and toughness of ceramics, I have created a new world of 2D vessels to satisfy my hunger for both. These vessels are playful and explorative – sculpted of alternative and sustainable materials like hemp, cypress cotton, and dried flowers.
These woven vessels are a series sketches, serving as experiments of forms, shapes, and textures for me to process. While they weave up quickly on this 7.5x11” tapestry loom, I appreciate the slowness that comes with the use of alternative materials. Taking the time to knot together strips of vintage fabrics. Carefully threading fragile hemp between warp yarns. Arranging florals in a still life.
Sometimes the hemp catches, or the brittle leaves break, and the knotted strips get caught. These things slow me down. These things teach me to appreciate. This slowness equates to learning.
